Danīs Glorious Song
Wednesday, 6 July 2005
Dan has made up a song about Equador:
(to the tune of spider man)
Equador! Equador!
Does whatever Peru does and more,
Men with hats, and with guns,
not many monks but plenty of nuns
Look out here comes Equador!
The man has talent. It s why I married him.
We have relocated to Otavalo, which is excelent. A vast improvement on the place we were staying in Quito which was resplendant with heavilly armed guards and where the lonely planet advised that you donīt stray far from the doorways of the pubs at night. Last night we saw the most blatent mugger type either of us has seen since we lived in Manchester and there was a three hour long violent shouty fight outside our hostal window between 1 and 4am (the armed guards were just watching this from their doorways).
Otavalo is great, proper South American style plazas with everyone chilling in them. Wide eyed babies tied onto their mother (or older siblings) back with a big piece of colourful cloth. Blokes in panama hats, ponchos and nike trackie bottoms. Iīve been having a great time sitting in the plaza loking at the massive mountains talking to English students and saying no lo siento to the occaisional withered croney looking begger woman. So far our forays into the drinking world have led us to believe that the local cerveza is pilsner, costs around a dollar for a large one and tastes like poor quality english larger.

Dan's song fits well with the George Doors "Lesbians" song on Shooting Stars. Do you remember it, it was a classic.
The only Spanish Tim and I learnt from our year long course of evening classes is
dos cervezas para mi madre por pavor.
